The components were segregated on SF T2000 servers using Solaris 10 Zones on ZFS.

Assigned to a project upgrading SF E25k production domains to Solaris 9 9/05 using Live Upgrade. Build SF V120 applications server utilizing Solaris 10 and WebLogic. Sole responsible for LAN-free/serverless backup of 12 Oracle 9i databases and upwards of 60-80TB of data residing on HDS SAN (Shadow Image, True Copy, CCI), primarily using VxVM, Oracle RMAN, Tivoli Storage Manager and own scripts. Expand system to work with Solaris Volume Manager, Oracle 10g features, and various requests set by customers. Ongoing SAN & Solaris performance tuning, mentor new employees. Servers primarily used were SF880, V1280, E25k domains and T5240.

The UNIX team which I was assigned to maintain all systems out-sourced to IBM; I was involved with roughly 400 Sun systems belonging to Mærsk Line, comprised of SF E15K, E25K, SF480/490 and V1280's to name just a few. Systems were on Solaris 8 and 9 running mainly WebSphere MQ, BEA Tuxedo, BEA WebLogic and most with VxVM & SAN. While there I was tasked with developing a modularised automated Operational Acceptance Test system in Perl as well as automating the roll-out upgrade of Explorer on all Sun systems. Evaluated Sun Fire T2000 systems.

Technical architect and interface between O2 and NEC on design and implementation issues with the NEC i-mode platform, using VxVM, NetBackup 5.x, Sun Cluster 3.0/3.1, SunONE Directory Server 5.2, SunONE Messaging Server 5.2 and SunMC on V240/V480 with Solaris 8, StorEdge L25 & StorEdge 3310. Lead architect on an already partially designed multi-site fully redundant credit card 'wallet' project, primarily on SunFire V40z and SunFire V890 with Solaris 10, SunONE Portal Server, Apache HTTP Server, Oracle 10g and Macalla Wallet software. Both platforms were designed with a 1.5 million subscriber base in mind across all of Ireland. Gained experience with Solaris 10 features such as zones, resource management and SMF.

Worked on-site one of the worlds top 3 largest telecoms for 4 months throughout the United States installing and expanding fully redundant/HA Messaging over IP platforms which are based on Solaris 8, SunFire V240 servers, Sun Cluster 3.1, StorEdge 3510FC and Extreme Alpine 3800 series switches. Other components used were iPlanet Directory Server, iPlanet Messaging Server and Ericsson IP Telephony gateways. Acted as team leader on some projects. Developed, coordinated and executed initial Sun Cluster expansions with minimal downtime. Streamlined installs by automating procedures.
Wrote Sun Cluster & iPlanet Message Store install and training material for co-workers. Certified the clusters in cooperation with Sun Microsystems consultants. Some exposure to Cisco AS5400 with PRI interfaces, Cisco SS7 gateway and GNU gatekeeper.

The majority of systems were deployed using either Sun Cluster 2.2 or Veritas Cluster 3.5, on SunFire V120/V240 and 4800 servers using StorEdge 3300, Cisco 2900 switches, 2600 routers and PIX firewalls.
Technologies worked with are, amongst many, Tru64 v4.0F, TruCluster, Solaris 8, WSB, MMSC, WAP, SMS, MMS, GPRS, (W)TLS, low-level TCP/IP debugging.

Single point of contact for support work on HP-UX 11.00 servers involving LVM, Apache, shell scripting in DMZ environments. Oracle 8i and 9i monitoring and DBA tasks.
Installed, configured and secured Sun Netra 1400 servers with Solaris 8. Wrote a Sun Solaris security guide to clarify security issues and help during installs, this was based around the Sun JASS toolkit.

Viage GmbH was owned and run by myself and four partners, during the duration of the company I worked on various client projects, some of which are mentioned below. We implemented standards and procedures on how to conduct business and work on client systems.
As a consultant for Professional Services I was involved in various projects for large international organizations and blue chips. Implemented SunRay 1.3, and later upgraded to a 2.0 failover environment.
Designed, installed and monitored SAN-like Veritas NetBackup and Legato Networker backup solutions.
Built Solaris 9 based minimal-install firewalls & proxies. Installed and monitored Sun Cluster 3.0 with Oracle 8i and Apache on SunFire 280R and SunFire 3800, wrote best practice install guide for Sun Cluster 3.0 and several data services. Custom built customer specific data services for Sun Cluster. Used Veritas Volume Manager 3.2 and Solstice DiskSuite 4.2.1 extensively on storage systems for the cluster nodes. Worked with iPlanet/SunONE Enterprise web and calendar server.

Analyzed current backup infrastructure, designed and implemented new solution using Veritas NetBackup, NDMP & a SAN-enabled ATL P3000 library, NetApp Filers and a PHP/web based reporting and statistics and monitoring frontend.
Installed and customized a new Jumpstart server using the JASS toolkit to enable fast deployment of fully configured SunFire 280R servers in a disaster recovery situation. Converted backend to a NIS+ environment to ease management and usability. Several systems were reinstalled to achieve better performance and enhance the security, including the SunFire 3800 Oracle servers.
Secured all Solaris systems using the JASS toolkit and well-known security standards such as ssh, tripwire and IP filter. Worked on network, server and workstation security projects. Project-managed the night and day shifts consisting of 10 people.

On-site systems administrator for Sun IT Operations in Langen. Responsible for local administration of approximately 200 workstations and several servers in the regional NIS environment. Analyzed, designed and implemented the new SunRay based flexible office for the Sun Frankfurt office and started initial planning for Heidelberg. Decommissioned the Darmstadt office infrastructure and implemented the necessary changes in Frankfurt for them to merge.
Site-owner for Langen office, Heidelberg, Darmstadt and Bonn offices. Assisted general team with day to day management of servers at Sun locations throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland, approximately 100 servers and 3000 workstations. Planned, configured and installed Sun Cluster 3.0 servers in the requirements and analysis phase. Hardware ranges from SS10's to E6500's, L3500 libraries and A5x00 storage systems. Backup using Veritas NetBackup and Legato Networker.

Responsible for Sun Solaris servers on-site in Brussels, Paris and HP-UX in Munich. Shared with the HP-UX team to manage HP-UX servers in Europe, Middle East and Africa, plus some in Asia.
Lead Systems Administrator for the CPC development team. Worked on E450 and E3500 systems, extensive experience with VxVM on local disks as well as SSA systems. 75% of the systems are in production, most with Oracle or Sybase databases. Configured secure tunnels between sites, secured all Solaris systems and some HP-UX.

Facility Management of high availability web and database servers including the Danish Yellow Pages. Design and implementation of a site-wide system management/monitoring tools. Worked on various projects for customers such as the danish military, TeleDanmark Mobile. Did entry-level project management. Worked mostly with Solaris 2.6 and 7 on the whole range of Sun servers.
Some exposure to Cisco IOS. Co-designed current and new infrastructure. Designed several security systems for various customers and projects. Most systems were in DMZ's using Cisco routers or Checkpoint 1 FW.

Part of the UNIX management team responsible for the running of 200 Sun, 200 IBM and 100 SGI UNIX systems. Focal point for the roll-out of Solaris 2.6 and Solaris 7. Backup on StorageTek tape libraries, worked with AFS and mass storage of up to 1TB per node. Test and implementation of ATM on Sun servers. Automation of daily tasks using Perl, ksh and C. Performance monitoring and tuning of Sun workstations and servers. Test and implementation of 500GB-1TB Sun StorEdge arrays using Sun RAID Manager, DiskSuite and Veritas VxFS.
Upgraded central UNIX printing environment.

UNIX Support for Europe and Africa based in The Netherlands.

Initial roll-out of an Enterprise Security Management system on Solaris, Solaris, AIX & HP-UX servers in a high-availability production environment. All-round UNIX support on above mentioned platforms. AIX upgrades to solve Y2K problems. Secondary security focal point for the department.
